Inscripta has an opening for a Downstream Processing Engineer
located in Pleasanton, California
Summary:
We are seeking a Downstream Processing Engineer to lead/assist in
identification, development, and scaling of multiple purification
processes of small molecule products from fermentation broths. The
successful candidate will bring previous expertise in the
development and scaling of downstream processing methods, a
fundamental understanding of upstream and fermentation processes,
and will also have the intellectual flexibility to draw on best
practices from related disciplines including the chemical,
pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries.
This role is a hands-on, individual contributor position.
Responsibilities include design and execution of experiments in our
internal laboratory as well as coordinating and supporting work at
external CRO/CMOs. This hands-on position will also contribute to
expanding our internal DSP Process Research laboratory
capabilities.
Responsibilities:
--- Design and execute experiments to develop commercially viable
processes for the recovery and purification of microbial
fermentation-based products to meet project milestones including
product yield, purity, and performance at industrial scale.
--- Analyze, summarize, interpret, and present experimental results
to others in a collaborative team environment.
--- Collaborate with our analytical team to establish new
analytical approaches and develop and implement sampling and sample
processing schemes for evaluating process streams.
--- Establish and expand DSP laboratory capabilities as needed,
including selecting, acquiring, and setting up equipment.
--- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless
technology transfer from development to manufacturing.
--- Lead/assist generation of technology transfer package, support
technology transfer, scale up activities, and pilot campaigns.
--- Interact with and monitor outside collaborators to assist in
process scale-up and commercialization.
Requirements
Qualifications/Experience:
--- B.S. / M.S. / Ph.D. in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering or a
related discipline with at least two years of industrial experience
working directly with small molecule products at bench and
pilot-scale bioprocess development.
--- Experience with a range of commercially-applicable unit
operations such as cell isolation, cell disruption, extraction,
liquid-liquid and liquid-solid separations, distillation, drying,
filtration, crystallization, chromatography, etc.
--- Expertise in experimental design and meticulous execution -
strong data analysis and statistical skills including design of
experiments (DOE) experience.
--- Fundamental knowledge of biochemical & process engineering
principles including mass balance & transport, fluid dynamics, and
process control.
--- Strong time management skills, able to multitask effectively,
and to adapt work plans as needed while ensuring maximum
efficiency.
--- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
--- Outstanding team player with strong interpersonal and
communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
--- Experience with process and cost modeling, Aspen/CHEMCAD
simulation.
--- Strong background in organic chemistry.
Inscripta offers a competitive base salary, bonus plan, benefits

members. Starting Salary Range: $95,000 - $150,000 per year. This
salary range is provided per current averages and expectations. The

candidate's qualifications and experience and may be outside this
