Omron is a leader in the field of industrial automation with operations in over 40 countries and 150 locations worldwide.We are seeking to hire an ambitious and talented, cross-functional Product Development/Sustaining Engineer to join our team at the new 140,000 square foot facility in Silicon Valley.Primary Responsibilities:Support industrial robot hardware and software products used in a variety of applications including primary and secondary food processing, packaging, assembly, and much more.Aid in debugging, testing, and evaluation of new products from conception to global launch.Contribute to continuous improvement of existing and new products to meet customer needs.Contribute technical expertise to Marketing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Service, Quality, and Support teams in the global organization.Represent Omron in a professional, ethical, and socially responsible manner through personal and business interactions with colleagues, employees, and customers.Specific Duties:Become a subject-matter expert for our industrial robot product line. This includes being trained on both robotics hardware, and also understanding high-level software architecture (embedded- & application software)Join meetings with our external customers & internal functional managers to review customer issues with the intent of reproducing & prioritizing these issues for the engineering team.Understand customer applications, product capabilities, and system limitations.Construct and monitor test cells for reproducing, troubleshooting, and solving customer challenges and product defects in collaboration with Systems and Software Engineering teams.Daily interaction with Marketing, Engineering, Quality, Service, and application support teams via phone, email, video conference, and onsite visits if required. International travel opportunities available to work with customers and teams worldwide.Consult with marketing and engineering teams to support installed base of industrial robots, and expand market presence through strategic product and application development.Contribute to design and documentation reviews.Job Level: Intermediate, low supervisionRequired:Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering from a four-year college or related technical school.Minimum two (2) years' experience with robotics or industrial automation equipment.Strong debugging, problem solving, analytical, and creative thinking skills.Strong knowledge of core robotics principles and electro-mechanical systems.Working knowledge of software development.Programming experience:Compiled language such as C, C++, or C#.PLC programming such as Omron, Siemens, or Rockwell.Experience with hand tools and machinery.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Strong analytical and organizational skills to make data-driven decisions.Willingness and ability to travel domestic or international as needed, Preferred:Master of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering.Five (5) or more year's industry experience.Experience working as system integrator.Ability to read and critically review mechanical, electrical, or system schematics.Ability to design and assemble mechanical, electrical, or pneumatic subsystems.Ability to clearly articulate detailed technical topics and assignments to others.Working knowledge of software tools (Office365, MS Office, MS Teams/Sharepoint, Atlassian Confluence/Jira/BitBucket, Visual Studio, Git, Matlab, TeamViewer).Working knowledge of industrial safety procedures, i.e. Lockout/Tagout.Familiarity with basic crisis management strategies.Self-motivated individual with a "can-do" attitudeEquipment Used in Position:Industrial robots and automation equipment, hand tools, fabrication equipmentPhysical Requirements/Physical Activities:While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is often required to talk, hear at normal speaking levels, to carry, lift, push, pull up to 50lb and use their hands and fingers to type, handle or feel, including repetitive motions with the wrists, hands and fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crouch and stoop, as well as reach and grasp with arms and hands, this is a sedentary position involving sitting most of the time. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision for extensive computer use, reading and visual inspections.Work Environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The position is subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, and exposure to chemicals.
