As a Connectors Engineer, you will be working in a collaborative
environment of structural design engineers, tool design engineers,
product managers, and manufacturing experts. Your R&D
innovation in product design will be driven by the needs of the
customer, changes in building materials and methods, and building
code changes. You will recommend alterations and enhancements to
improve the quality, performance and cost of products. You will
provide technical support and product information to branch
engineers, designers, customers, and other business units. The
Connector Engineering R&D team includes civil engineers,
mechanical engineers, and wood and material specialists.

WHAT YOULL BE DOING (% of Time)
Develop connector products for the building industry (50%)
Design and develop new structural connectors for the light-frame
wood, cold-formed steel and mass timber markets. Develop
experimental plans, collect, organize and analyze data and make
decisions. Lead and manage projects, collaborate with Product
Managers, and advise manufacturing.
Manage product test programs (20%)
You will break things. For over 60 years, customers have counted
on Simpson Strong-Tie to provide highly engineered products with
allowable loads based on physical testing. Design connector tests
to determine key features to optimize performance, material use and
manufacturing efficiency. Our testing labs will build and test to
your specifications and then break it so we can learn and improve.

Work with Marketing to develop technical literature (15%)
Working with our talented Marketing team, you will develop and
maintain both web-based and printed literature that supports our
customers. Provide technical support for connector products and
develop new applications for products based on customer
Provide technical and application support for products.
Provide internal support and training as well as evaluation of
processes and procedures in pursuit of continual improvement.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelors of Science in Civil, Structural or Architectural
Passed NCEES Fundamentals of Engineer (FE) Exam required.
Licensed Civil or Structural Engineer, preferred.
5 years design or similar experience, including timber, steel,
cold-formed steel and reinforced concrete structures.
Knowledge: Practical working knowledge of common timber,
concrete and steel construction methods. Familiarity with Simpson
Strong-Tie products is a plus.
Reading Comprehension/ Speaking/Writing: Ability to read and
interpret documents such as architectural and structural plans,
safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure
manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or
employees of the Simpson Strong-Tie.
Reasoning: Effective analytical, technical, and problem solving
skills. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out
instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability
to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in
Organization: Strong organizational skills. Ability to
prioritize multiple projects.
Team Player: Demonstrated ability to motivate and work with team
members. Must be able to connect, interface, and communicate well
with a variety of internal partners in sales, marketing, IT,
quality, production and engineering.
Communication: Strong communication skills needed, as clear
communication is required to effectively deliver projects to
customers as well as direct team members.
Software: Frequently used software includes: Microsoft Suite
including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access as well as
other software including AutoCAD, SAP2000, Revit, Bluebeam and
Adobe Acrobat pdf viewers. Simpson Strong-Tie web apps are often
used as tools for design. Basic programming knowledge in VBA (Excel
and AutoCAD) or MATLAB is a plus.
This job requires domestic/international travel, less than 10%
of the time.
WORK STATUS & LOCATION
This full-time, exempt position is located in Pleasanton,
Relocation will not be considered for this position.
