As a PL Drafter, you will help develop products and create designs for manufacturability, create mechanical drawings and 3-D models, maintain drawings, drawing files, drawing standards, and drawing control systems.If career growth is important to you, we not only know how to help you with that, it's what we love to do:YOU'LL BE DOING(% of Time)Work with R&D engineers, engineering managers, drafters, and others in developing product drawings for production and 3-D models as directed by engineering. Work with engineers, manufacturing operatives, and quality control staff to help design products and improve processes for manufacturability in accordance with manufacturing and industry standards. Develop and create new and revised product drawings for production. (50%)Update drawings as required for changes to products and standards. (20%)Maintain control of drawing files. Maintain the files and database for the production facilities. Maintain Simpson's drafting standards, design standards, and drafting related work instructions. (20%)Assist with special projects as assigned by the engineering managers. (5%)When inefficienciesare identified, take appropriate actions to initiate improvements in operations, products, and services in accordance with our quality management system. (5%)DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCEIf you can do everything listed above, you've got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:Associates Degree preferred.5 years experience as a mechanical drafter.Mechanical drafting certificate preferred.Mechanical design, manufacturing experience, automatic stamping, machining or the desire to learn about it.AutoCAD Level I and Level II Certification requiredor equivalent.Experience in CAD Draw Commands, Edit Commands, Layers, Dimensions, Coordinates, Object Snaps, Function Keys, Inquiry, Blocks, Plotting, Text, Hatching, Model Space, Paper Space External References, Attributes, Advanced Draw and Edit Techniques, Grips, Object Selection, Multilines, Raster Images, Drawing Standards, etc.Advanced proficiencyin AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventory, and Microsoft Word and Excel.Advanced proficiencyin production tolerance concepts, machining, forming, and other manufacturing processes.Math: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.Language: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Reasoning: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
