We are seeking a talented and motivated Bioinformatics Senior
Scientist, who will be an integral member of the Research team
contributing to the research and development of qPCR tests for
cobas x800, cobas Liat, and digital PCR. The individual brings
subject matter expertise to work closely within the Bioinformatics
team, wet lab scientists in R&D as well as internal & external
Hand-on work on mining for biomarker discovery for medical
conditions of interest
Develop and maintain Agile Assay Design (AAD) bioinformatics
tools for qPCR tests
NGS data analysis tools and/or workflows and their for R&D
Deploy these tools on Roche intranet (Galaxy) and train
scientists to use themResponsibilities
Hands-on biomarker discovery data mining for medical conditions
of interest based on available microarray and NGS data.
Develop & support Agile Assay Design (AAD) bioinformatics tools
for multiplexed qPCR assays on the Roche cobas x800, Liat Systems
and digital PCR.
Design and model wet lab data to integrated into informatics
Understand what tools are needed, based on interactions with wet
lab Scientists and experimental data
Design wet lab experiments to generate data and develop model
based on these data
Recommend approaches for NGS Data analyses, develop new and
improved existing informatics tools and workflows for NGS data
analyses for internal R&D projects
Implement, and deliver new or creative approaches in the scope
of the function for scientific research,:.
Training scientists to use AAD and NGS tools on Roche intranet
and other cloud platforms.
Presents findings and project status reviews at internal
seminars and meetings. Applies technical writing skills to produce
reports and documents. Prepares summaries, internal reports
presentations, manuscripts, etc.
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with Roche
Bachelor's degree and in Biological/Life Sciences, Chemistry,
Biochemistry, Informatics or related field, or equivalent
combination of education and work experience, typically 5 years of
relevant experience, or Master's degree with 2+ years' experience
or a Ph.D.
Educational background and relevant work experience in
Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science or
Molecular Biology preferred. Experience in assay optimization,
experimental design, versatile laboratory practice, data analysis,
Proficient in using scripting programming languages: Python, R,
Perl in a distributed Linux environment.
Strong data modelling skills.
Have a good understanding of molecular biology, including PCR,
NGS. Prior experience in molecular biology wet lab work is a plus,
as well as prior experience in the biology of infectious
Prior work supporting scientific informatics data mining, big
data, machine learning is a plus.
Understanding of academic bioinformatics tools used for NGS data
analyses and PCR.
Ability to independently implement and support informatics
solutions that meet user's needs.
Statistics, C++ or Java proficiency as well as understanding or
prior experience with relational databases is a plus.
Prior experience using cloud computing, computer clusters and
Galaxy is a plus
Prior experience developing diagnostics tests is a plus, but not
