We enable real time insights across Workday's platforms, infrastructure, and applications. Our focus is on the development of a large-scale distributed Observability platform and on the management of it to support critical Workday applications. The team builds and operates the software for the metrics, logs and traces collection, stores it, alerts on it & provides the means of visualization for the whole acquired information. We handle more than 20M time-series data per minute and multiple terabytes of logs per day - all of these are produced by Workday applications and underlying services and infrastructure.If you enjoy writing, orchestrating and running efficient software or tuning and scaling large distributed systems and solving big scale problems - you will enjoy working with us. If so, we should chat.About the RoleYou will design and build our distributed systems that underpin our Observability services. You will build software modules that are used by all of Workday's engineering teams.You will build orchestrating software to automate, monitor, alert and correlate various observability artifacts.You will work with all aspects of monitoring with a keen eye for alerting , visualization and data collection.You will evaluate/implement new open source and cloud native tools and technologies, as needed.You will collaborate with experts in Security, Infrastructure, Product Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering.You will debug, solve and scale distributed systems. If you like trying new techniques and approaches to sophisticated problems, love to learn new technologies, are a natural collaborator and a phenomenal teammate who brings out the best in everyone around you, then give us a shout!Basic Qualifications10+ years coding skills in a modern programming language (Java/Scala/Python/Go/Rust).Solid understanding of high performance data capture and collection systems, design of APIs around these systems. Design for reliable delivery of data.Hands-on experience with building high performance data ingestion software and solving for concurrency, latency, contention and throughput.Solid understanding of Monitoring concepts, Time-series DBs, Distributed Tracing and Log collection systems like Prometheus, ElasticSearch, Splunk and InfluxData with performance tuning and scaling-up experience.Authority in performance optimization of metrics, distributed tracing and log workloads.Understanding of infrastructure (Physical and Virtual) and the way of maximising the alerting mechanisms, and also should be dexterous with the events correlation principals.Other QualificationsExperience working with Public cloud (GCP/AWS etc).Experience with one of the following tools: Terraform, Ansible, ChefExperience with Containers, Kubernetes, Service Mesh and related technologiesHands on experience with PromQL, InfluxQL/FluxQL, Lucin/ELK query language;Ability to take care of a high degree of ambiguity and handle things with autonomy.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.You have strong interpersonal skills both written and verbal.#LI-MH5As a federal contractor, Workday is requiring all new hires to verify that they are fully-vaccinated against COVID-19 within 72 hours of beginning employment with Workday, consistent with applicable law. Workday pay ranges vary based on work location.
